NEAR CANBY, Ore. – An anonymous group claiming to represent the ALF – Initials often used by the Animal Liberation Front – say they broke open a pheasant farmer’s pen Friday night.
The activists tore open fencing that kept pheasants in captivity.
According to the release sent out by “Bite Back” magazine, the group claiming to represent the ALF said “these sentient beings will now get the chance to live out the rest of their natural lives in the wild.”
Ironically, most of the pheasants never left the pen at all.
Chris and Val Blanton, who own the property and raise the pheasants, said they started raising them about a year ago and only Monday morning discovered the damage to the pen. They said one pheasant was missing, another died, but the rest were still inside the pen.
The group said they were also responsible for another attack on a pheasant farm in May in Scio.
The Blantons said they’ll file a police report with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
“It’s just frustrating. Stupid people. Stupid ideas,” said Chris Blanton with Primrose Pheasant Farm. “They think their way is the right way and everybody else should live it that way. And that’s not the American way.”
The Blantons spent Monday morning repairing the damaged pen.
