Every year, 3-4 million pets are killed in US shelters. This mass murder is called euthanasia. How should animal rights activists respond to this state-sponsored brutality? With protest! With determined activism! With direct action! But what’s really going on? It turns out that large “animal rights” organizations like PETA not only fail to protest the killing of animals, but they themselves kill animals.
This horror is unbelievable… PETA operates animal shelters, yet only 1-3% of them find new homes; the rest are euthanized shortly after arrival. According to documents published by the Center for Consumer Freedom in 2012, over the 15 years since 1998, approximately 27,000 animals were killed at PETA’s Norfolk headquarters, accounting for approximately 95 percent of all animals admitted to the shelter. 84 percent of the animals were euthanized within 24 hours of arrival.
Amanda Schinke, a spokesperson for the organization, claims that euthanasia is an act of love for animals no one else loves… Amanda, Goebbels is turning over in his grave with envy at your rhetoric… Euthanasia?! It’s MURDER, the mass murder of animals. PETA is a conveyor belt of death! A shelter is a place where animals should live in protection, free from pain and suffering. PETA has turned its shelters into Auschwitz for animals.
PETA, you are animal killers! You kill so you don’t waste the money people give you, thinking you’ll actually save animals. Ingrid Newkirk, you are the commander of a concentration camp. You lead a gang of murderers who have turned the cause of Conscience into a business. A business based on blatant injustice and death. Ingrid Newkirk, you are far worse than ordinary animal killers because you are traitorous murderers. By calling yourself animal rights activists, you gave them Hope for Justice. The animals believed in your humanity, believed that they would be happy in your shelters… But you betrayed them! You began to kill them! You betrayed the Faith and Hope of animals. You are traitors to the meaning of human life—All-encompassing Love—Compassion for all living things. You are swindlers and thieves because you deceive the people who give you their money to protect animals from death and suffering.
Ingrid Newkirk, I have a profound request of you and the staff of your Auschwitz for animals, PETA: euthanize yourselves. ****
In 2008, Natascha Maria Kampusch, who spent eight years in captivity with a maniac, joined PETA. Here’s what she wrote to the German Minister of Agriculture: “Animals, if they could, would escape, like me, because life in captivity is a life of deprivation. It’s up to you to decide whether sociable, intelligent, and wonderful creatures should be freed from the chains and cages where they are kept by merciless people.”
I know what Maria Kampusch is talking about. I was 17 the first time I was caged. There, in an overcrowded prison cell, were 14-year-olds… We were hostages of a society of hypocrites, we were hostages of the main maniac and terrorist – the State. 15 years in a cage; I was a bad person, but no worse than those who caged me. I regret nothing, because during those 15 years in a cage, I understood what animals feel. Fifteen years have transformed me into Compassion for the billions of animals that human terrorists have taken hostage and tortured daily, killing innocents. Therefore, I couldn’t help but do what I did. I couldn’t help but rebel against the System that kills Humanity and the Living Earth; I couldn’t help but try to awaken people’s Conscience.
I’m 50 years old, twenty of which I’ve been in a cage. The last five of those twenty, spent in solitary confinement, are the best years of my adult life. Because they are the years of a prisoner of Conscience. I’ve been a bad person, but I’ve never been a traitor; a traitor to my Conscience. I do everything I can to make the world a better place, so there’s less suffering and more Compassion. I do this honestly, without self-deception, to the end. I will not betray the faith and hope of animals. I want to say to Maria Kampusch and everyone who truly strives for Justice for all earthlings: PETA and organizations like it are not animal rights activists; they are animal killers and traitors who have sold their Conscience to the System for 30 pieces of silver. *** Fake animal rights activists, welfarists, you have created a false context for the fight for animal rights, a false description of the essence of activism. A context within which it is impossible to effectively resist institutionalized brutality and legal terrorism. With your populism, half-measures, compromise, imitation of struggle, and collaboration with the evildoers in power, you betray the Idea, you betray the Living Earth.
Welfarists, you want to effectively resist the System of Injustice, you want to effectively defend animal rights without losing your reputation, your “good name” in the eyes of those honest scoundrels who have turned Earth into hell for animals. You want to defeat evil without becoming an enemy of the root, the primary cause of this evil – State Capitalism of the System, a system of global terrorism in the name of the Dollar. Don’t deceive yourself! Remaining within the confines of the ruling System, on the basis of laws passed in the interests of Capital, it is impossible to be an honest eco-warrior.
There is no “legitimate” struggle for Justice. A true struggle for Justice for all earthlings will always be declared illegal. The truth is that “terrorism” is, first and foremost, the State itself, and not those who oppose it. ****
On July 21, 2020, I held a protest, Anti-System Day; a protest against the total injustice of our way of life. I forced the president to call on the people of the world to watch the film “Earthlings” and recognize our brutality against animals. I took up arms to defend those who cannot defend themselves. It was an ACT OF SELF-DEFENSE. I defended my Home—the Living Earth—my Family—billions of animals. I spoke on their behalf. All “legal” methods of fighting for animal rights are ineffective; inhumanity prevails. Meat consumption worldwide is growing, and suffering is increasing along with global warming. I took 13 people hostage to loudly declare to the entire world: human terrorists, free your animal hostages; stop killing the Living Earth in the name of the Dollar. I knew that no one but me should suffer; I knew I would die or go to prison for a long time, return to my cage…
I appeal to the animal “defenders” who condemned my direct action against the generally recognized terrorism of the System’s people against animals; I appeal to those who, in one voice with the System’s Authority, declared: “We are against terror.” I despise you! I despise you for your cowardice. By condemning me, you have betrayed the animals and sided with their executioner – the System. Faint-hearted ones, have the courage to see things through to the end, the courage not to deceive yourselves and to align your lives with your convictions. “He’s a terrorist, we condemn him,” you repeated, following the State, that is, in unison with the global power of Mammon, which legalizes and justifies cruelty to animals. The truth is, I’m not the terrorist, but the System of Injustice against which I spoke out. “The State has always been and is the first terrorist”—that’s how my demands began.
By condemning my actions, you have become accomplices of the real, main Terrorist, the enemy of animals and the Living Earth. Your “defense” of animal rights is a sham, because you are not enemies, but friends of the System that brutalizes them. You say that animals have the same rights to life and freedom as humans, but you refuse to be consistent and acknowledge the truth: whatever is right to defend human rights is no less right to defend animal rights. Your rights, your property, your well-being are protected by legions of heavily armed System soldiers, always ready to kill and maim at the command of their paymaster. You don’t consider your defenders with machine guns terrorists, but you call those who take up arms not for personal gain, but at the behest of their Conscience, to protect those who lack weapons for self-defense, terrorists—that is, great villains…
This is the morality of double standards, the morality of scoundrels. The real terrorists are those who kill animals in shelters, not those who go to their deaths or prison to protect them. Terrorists are those who entrust, sell out their will and conscience to Trumps, Putins, …, those honest souls in whose name the System is killing the Living Earth. Terrorists in law, false people, I despise you! It is a great honor for me to be a terrorist in your eyes, that is, an enemy of the System. Your self-deception is deliberate; it is your salvation from the fear of having to take Direct Action against Injustice. The true enemies of Evil have always been declared outlaws.
My solitary confinement is my alibi before my Conscience, my service to the animals. I do everything I can. Watch the film “Earthlings”! Free the hostages! Long live the Anti-System!

PETA’s Shelter Kill Rate Is Down But Still Deadly

Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) runs a facility in Norfolk, Virginia that it calls an animal shelter. As with any other shelter operator in Virginia, PETA must submit an annual report to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) that reports on the fate of the animals that the shelter took in during the preceding year. As we have reported over the years (e.g., here, here and here), PETA’s VDACS reports show that PETA euthanizes a substantial number of the dogs and cats that it takes in and does so at a rate that exceeds the rates of public and private shelters in Virginia.
PETA’s report for 2025 continues to show this trend. Although the kill rate was down from 2024, PETA still euthanized nearly 60% of the dogs and cats that it took in. The table and graph below show the PETA euthanasia rate for the period 2014 through 2025:
PETA’s kill rate still greatly exceeds the rate at which dogs, cats and animals in general are euthanized in public and private shelters in Virginia. The following graph shows the results based on 2025 VDACS filings:
The results in PETA’s shelter also stand in stark contrast to the 2025 national euthanasia rate for shelters and rescues. The Shelter Animals Count (SAC), a data collection program that was acquired by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, employs a machine learning model to analyze and interpret data from animal shelters across the United States. SAC describes itself as “a neutral, industry-wide data collection entity.” According to SAC, in 2025, 5.8 million cats and dogs entered shelters and rescues across America.” Of that number, however, 597,000 – or about 10% — were euthanized. Thus, PETA’s kill rate, even though modestly down in 2025, was still nearly six times more than the national average.
PETA’s VDACS filing goes on at length about its sterilization services, free dog houses and bedding and so forth, but it doesn’t address the fact that its euthanasia rate vastly exceeds that of other Virginia shelters, including public shelters, many of which are open admission. As we have observed before, if all of the dogs and cats that PETA puts down are fatally ill or unadoptable, it would be a simple matter for PETA to say so. The response? Crickets.
