Animal Liberation Front (ALF) Claims Liberation of 2000 Captive Mink From Massillon, Ohio Fur Farm Last Week

In a communique received today by the North American Animal Liberation Press Office, Animal Liberation Front activists claim to have released approximately 2000 captive mink from Tonn’s Fur Farm in Massillon, Ohio last week. The farm is located at 3270 Pigeon Run Road SW in Massillon. Another nearby fur farm was raided by the Animal Liberation Front previously on November 8, 2022 when 1000 mink were liberated.

The communique reads, in full:
In the spirit of July 4th, we decided the animals languishing on Tonn’s Mink Farm in Massillon, Ohio deserved their own independence day. The fireflies lit our path through the dark as we made our way to the fence, trusty wire-cutters in hand. We took our time with this part, cutting only the wire mesh and not the larger wires which we suspected could activate an alarm system.

Once we made it through and saw our first mink, we could not start opening cages fast enough. The mink quickly realized what was happening and started making no small amount of noise, unable to contain their excitement as they jumped from their prison cells. A quick lap around the surrounding sheds confirmed that their noise did not travel far at all.

We tore open cage after cage; after emptying several sheds, exhaustion had kicked in and we made our way back to the fence. A single mink was perched on top of it, just to the right of where we had torn it down, as if to say goodbye and reassure us that they would find their way out.

Now, reflecting on this action, all we can think about is how we cannot wait to do it again. Nothing that the cops, government or fur industry can threaten us with could ever come close to unsettling us as much as the possibility of one day having to look in the mirror and say “The animals needed me, they cried out for my help and I did nothing.”

Let us be clear: we are sending this communique for one reason alone. It isn’t to garner support or seek approval. Its not for likes or fire-emojis. This is a call to action! We needed only 2 things to accomplish what we did. Wire-cutters and a means of transportation, along with a will to act. Anyone has the same access to fur farms that we did; the animals are crying out for your help NOW! Stop thinking and doom-scrolling and act!

This action is dedicated to the Northumberland Two, Cara and Celeste. For every prisoner that they take, we will answer with the liberation of thousands!

Captive Mink, Sunbury, PA

Mink are genetically wild animals that roam up to 5 miles a day but are kept in 10-inch cages on fur farms; their treatment is egregiously cruel and violent. The mink are born in February or March and are killed by gassing, clubbing or anal electrocution in November, before being skinned, sometimes while still alive, for their fur. The animals liberated last week have a fighting chance at life; they faced a 100 percent death rate if they stayed on the farm.

The Fur Commission USA responded with their usual litany of lies, claiming absurdly that any liberated animals would die within 24-48 hours. Seriously, you cannot make this stuff up. Other lies they often espouse include:

Lie #1: “The mink will be hit by cars” – The absurdity of this statement is that before liberation, death was 100% certain. Every animal on the farm was bred to die. While it is true a small number may be hit by cars, most will not, and if nothing else they have been given a chance a freedom.

Lie #2: Mink are domestic and cannot survive in the wild” – Mink are in fact only one or two generation removed from their wild cousins and have not yet had their wild instincts bred out. The “Mink Rehabilitation Project” led by convicted ALF liberator Rod Coronado proved this decades ago. Mink legally purchased from a fur farm were released into the wild and shown through observation to retain natural survival instincts and thrive in the wild after a lifetime in a cage.

Lie #3: “Most of the mink were recaptured” – Mink travel several miles a day. Most mink had dispersed into the surrounding fields before the liberation was complete. A few may be recaptured, but rarely more than a handful. Our hearts go out to those few recaptured who were given a shot at life and now have only suffering ahead.

Lie #4: “The A.L.F. are terrorists” – Every action carried out by the Animal Liberation Front is an act of compassion, with the only intent to save the lives of sentient creatures. These actions are carried out with no benefit to activists, except peace of mind knowing they have done all they can to rescue animals from the torture chambers and concentration camps of the meat, dairy, egg, fur and animal research industries. “Their freedom is our victory.”

The number of fur farms in America has dwindled from more than 300 in the 1990s to less than 100 today, as the fur industry continues its steady decline into oblivion. A listing of all known fur farms in North America, is available here: https://finalnail.com/
