An animal rights group allegedly claimed responsibility for vandalizing a Michigan slaughterhouse and one of its vehicles and freeing cows from the facility Monday morning.

The Animal Liberation Front (ALF) released an email following the incident at McNee’s Meats. Members of the group spray-painted “Meat is Murder” on the front of the building and a sign outside, glued door locks to the building and company vehicle shut, and released cattle. WNEM reports cages used for holding chickens were also destroyed.

McNee’s Meats is located in North Branch, Michigan. ALF has attacked other slaughterhouses and cattle operations across the country including Harris Farms in January 2012. ALF set a fire that heavily damaged 14 tractors and several cattle trailers. Losses were estimated to total over $2 million.
