Linn County Undersheriff Bruce Riley reports deputies are investigating the illegal release of pheasants from a local hunting ranch. Sometime during the night of March 14, 2012, members claiming to be affiliated with the North American Animal Liberation, say they entered the property located at 40485 Queener Drive Scio, OR. They damaged a pen which was holding the birds and allowed the release of approximately 75 to 100 Chinese Ring Neck Pheasants.

The ranch raises pheasants for controlled release for the purposes of hunting and dog training. The initial report indicates over $4000.00 in damage to the property and loss of birds. Persons found responsible for this type of criminal conduct can be charged with state crimes and because this is a form of domestic terrorism, could face federal charges.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call the Linn County Sheriff’s Office at 541.967.3911. The investigation is continuing.
