Bomb Threats Made at Four Red Lobster Restaurants
Continued Participation in Canadian Seal Slaughter Cited

Los Angeles- An anonymous communiqué received by the North American Animal Liberation Press Office today states that four Red Lobster Restaurants received bomb threats on Saturday, April 8. Refusing to join a boycott against Canadian Seafood to help stop the barbaric slaughter of baby seals, Red Lobster has recently been targeted by protestors all over the southland. Numerous other national food chains have joined the boycott, including Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and 400 other companies worldwide.

According to the communiqué, “Dinner was ruined 4/8/06 for those who support the slaughter of innocent Canadian seals”. Franchises in Monrovia, Lakewood, La Puente and Garden Grove were allegedly threatened.

The Canadian government has approved the slaughter of 335,000 baby harp seals for this year, despite poor ice conditions that have already elicited a high natural mortality. The national government heavily subsidizes the killing by the use of icebreakers and spotter planes, and the slaughter accounts for a miniscule portion of the local economy. No indigenous persons are involved in the mass killing.

“Having been on the ice last year and witnessed first hand the bloody killing of these defenseless infant seals, I find it hard to imagine anyone in the international community continues to support this atrocity”, states Dr. Jerry Vlasak. “Even though the United States and most of Europe have banned seal products in their countries, there is an obligation to stop this barbaric killing immediately.”
