Where next for fur farming?

(map: Fur Free Alliance)

Last month, Bulgaria shut down its last mink farm, and we learned that every one of Sweden’s remaining mink farms has applied for government financial support to close down. Plus a proposed fur farming ban in Poland is gaining support. 22 countries in Europe have banned fur farming!

That leaves Spain (where the opening of new farms is prohibited), Greece and Finland with active fur farms– and the industry in those countries has an uncertain future.

Ukraine, Russia, China, and Turkey have been mentioned as countries where the industry could potentially have a future. But it’s quite possible that fur farming’s last stand will be in the U.S. and Canada.
