Davis police responded to a felony vandalism incident at the Nugget Market, 1414 E. Covell Blvd., at 3 p.m. Friday, after an animal rights activist was caught allegedly spray-painting the back of the store.

Stephanie Manzano, 24, reportedly was spraying the phrases “Go Vegan” and “Animals Are Not Ours,” when a Nugget employee on his lunch break told Manzano to stop and leave the premises. Upon discovery, Manzano allegedly attacked the employee, spraying his face and uniform with paint.

The graffiti caused an estimated $500 in damage, said Sgt. Michael Moore.

Police arrived on the scene and arrested Manzano on battery and felony vandalism charges and booked her into the Yolo County Jail. The grocery store employee declined medical assistance.
