During the first week in October, the ALF\/ELF liberated dozens of rodents from a laboratory at the University of Chile in Santiago. Anonymous report (translation by\u00a0Earth First! Journal<\/a>):<\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>As is already public knowledge, we entered into the animal torture center located in the Ecology Department of the University of Chile on the Juan G\u00f3mez Milla campus, with the clear intent of acting in solidarity with the caged rodents, we opened their cages and rescued them from the suffering, slavery, and exploitation the professors and students were subjecting them to.<\/p>\n

With respect to this, we declare:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>1. WE SUCCESSFULLY RESCUED 82 MICE. Far from white robes, syringes, cages, nurseries, and artificial environments, they have enjoyed good health and have been prepared for freedom. They know fresh air, the smell of earth, the beauty of the night. Their brilliant gazes, their happiness at leaving their cage, their desire to live and know of all that captivity deprived them of; this is a slap in the face to speciesism and scientific progress; a deep reaffirmation of our fight for freedom.<\/p>\n

2. IN THE LAB THERE WERE MORE RODENTS WHO WERE FREED FROM THEIR CAGES. We deeply regret not being able to take them all. We miscalculated the level of overcrowding there. We were not prepared for the scene we witnessed; this we point out as in self-criticism and as a learning lesson which only direct \"\"<\/a>experience can provide. We hope this serves as a lesson for others in the same fight for freedom who are not willing to wait for the jails’ good will.<\/p>\n

IN THAT ROOM THERE WERE ALSO HUNDRED OF CAGED INSECTS: WORMS, BEETLES, AND OTHERS. We do not know if they were experimenting on them or using them for food. They were also freed.<\/p>\n

The same speciesism based on hierarchy which puts humans above all else (while considering it impossible to experiment on dogs or cats, but yes on rodents) has ignored completely insects that were there. They are not mentioned in reports or in the media, but for us their cages are just as condemnable as others.<\/p>\n

It was a painful decision to leave some of the rodents and insects there, however we did not hesitate to open their cages and leave abundant food and water at their disposal. Having left them locked up at the scientists’ mercy, that would have made a restful sleep impossible. Next time we will be better prepared.<\/p>\n

We are not shocked that the media is standing on the side of exploitation and is reproducing the torturers version of the story. We are not shocked at their lies about animals destinies as a way of delegitimizing our actions. Are we to believe them? Are we to forget the problem deep down, that is, jailing and torture?<\/p>\n

3. The laboratory in question is a small room in which the rodents live closed in, up to 13 per cage. Each cage has ID codes and the numbers of their human ‘owners.’ WE FOUND 3 TYPES OF RODENTS: LAB RATS (not at all like the newspaper photo, these were black), FIELD MICE (from Europe), and DEG\u00da. We were especially saddened to see that some of them were shaven and had signs of manipulations. There were heaters which maintained artificial temperatures.<\/p>\n

4. WE KNOW THAT THE RODENTS WERE LIVING DISGUSTING LIVES IN CAPTIVITY, AND BECAUSE OF THAT WE ARE SEARCHING FOR WAYS TO PREPARE THEIR ULTIMATE FREEDOM. We observed a great change from captive trauma to happy freedom:<\/p>\n

-The lab rats developed immediate behaviors which were not expecting. They created tunnels in parts of the earth, and maneuvered with agility between leaves and twigs; they were very active.<\/p>\n

-The field mice seemed uneasy, and voracious when faced with fresh fruits and vegetables; they quickly lost interest in the artificial food (pellets). They are bold, curious, and capable of breaking off and finding places to hide.<\/p>\n

\u2013The deg\u00fa were reticent to our touch. That endemic species hides in branches and corners, they come out when we back off. They live off of saplings, fruit, and seeds.<\/p>\n

5. For long enough the antiauthoritarian currents have been signalling that DIVERSE FORMS OF EXPLOITATION AND DOMINATION LIE WITHIN THE PRACTICE OF HIERARCHICAL STRUCTURES FOR INDIVIDUALS, JUSTIFIED, AND ENDORSED BY AUTHORITY WITH DISCOURSE THAT EXCLUDES SOME AND PRIVILEDGES OTHERS. Speciesism puts value on life, bodies, and activities of non-human animals above the rest, instilling the concept that life, bodies, and activities can be appropriated, and used for the benefit of humanity, without worrying about contemplations like individualism, freedom, or free will. The speciesist logic tells us that the rest of species exist to serve humanity, endorsing slavery, power, and authority.<\/p>\n

These days we have witnessed scientists defending experimentation, speaking about the benefits that global warming will have on animals, affirming again and again that animal labs abide by established protocols. Facing this, we affirm that THERE IS NO VALID CAGE NOR EXPERIMENT THAT JUSTIFIES TORTURE. Have them experiment on themselves if they want, may they be caged themselves, and subjected to that which they subject the rodents and insects to.<\/p>\n

All who resist being dominated should repudiate the domination of others. Because of this, our position is firm; we reject and oppose all forms of exploitation and authority, as much as when they oppress us as when they oppress others. How are we to believe in those who kill some rodents, when they were the same people who caged them and subjected them to experiments? It hurts us to think of what is destined for those who were left behind, but we know that the main responsibility lies with those who subjected them to a caged life and took them from their habitats.<\/p>\n

The affected scientists have vomited a lot of trash, declaring that they are worried about the rodents, about their wellbeing, and an alleged incapacity of the rodents to exist in any space which is not their labs. Now they are interested in their deaths, when they have displayed deaths by their hands for generations, following scientific methods, and the idea of progress; for them the truth is reduced to some economic losses. Do they feel violated? Or are their aspirations frustrated by our actions? Now imagining their entire lives, one single life, in a cage.<\/p>\n

For those of you who believe and treat yourself as Gods of Knowledge above other species, we inform you that our [brothers\/sisters] are dismantling their truths and are showing us that it is possible to live in liberty. We are infinitely happy that their investigations have gone to shit, and that their successful careers have been frustrated and that they are crying on twitter…<\/p>\n

Ten years ago, after a long campaign, we were able to close the Laboratory of the Universidad Cat\u00f3lica [Catholic U.]. Today, via this direct action, while not blocking any form of sabotage, we make a call-out to multiply these actions against animal exploitation and those who promote it. WE CANNOT WAIT FOR THE CAGES TO OPEN THEMSELVES, let us make from words and intentions, actions of liberation.<\/p>\n

There were many criticisms of this action, based on information provided by the university (that since the beginning has changed significantly their version of the facts) and several media outlets. Many of these we have read, although they appear nefarious, worthy of a crying tantrum that is directed more towards delegitimizing our action as method, centered on sensationalism with which it was turned over to the news outlets. Arriving at this point has not been easy, it has been a pathway of learning, it is not the result of chance, nor less an outburst. Therefore we encourage those who criticize with ease to have the same initiative to carry out projects \/ instances of struggle against speciesism and those who support it.<\/p>\n

WE MAKE A CALLOUT TO STOP THE PURCHASE OF NEW RODENTS, and to the scientists in charge we proclaim: we know who you are and what you are doing. Watch your step!<\/p>\n

We dedicate this action to all the animals locked up in labs, zoos, cages, or jails.<\/p>\n

\nComo ya es de concocimiento p\u00fablico, entramos al centro de tortura animal (bioterio) ubicado en el departamento de ecolog\u00eda de la Universidad de Chile en el campues Juan G\u00f3mez Milla, con la clara intenci\u00f3n dede solidarizar con lxs roedores encerradxs, abrir sus jaulas y rescatarlxs del sufrimiento, esclavitud y explotaci\u00f3n a la fueron sometidxs por profesorxs y estudiantes.<\/p>\n

Con respecto a esto declaramos que:
\n1.LOGRAMOS RESCATAR A 82 RATONES. Lejos de las batas blancas, jeringas, jaulas, hacinamiento y condiciones ambientales artificiales, han gozado de buena salud y han sido preparadxs para su libertad. Han conocido el
\naire fresco, el olor de la tierra, la belleza de la noche. Sus miradas brillantes, su alegr\u00eda de salir de la jaula, sus ganas de vivir y conocer aquello de lo que el cautiverio les priv\u00f3, es una bofetada en la cara del especismo y el progreso cient\u00edfico, una profunda reafiraci\u00f3n de nuestra pelea por la libertad.<\/p>\n

2. EN EL BIOTERIO HAB\u00cdA M\u00c1S ROEDORES Y FUERON LIBERADXS DE SUS JAULAS.
\nLamentamos profundamente no haber podido llevarlxs a todxs. Cometimos el
\nerror de calcular sin llegar a imaginarnos el nivel de hacinamiento en el que viv\u00edan. No est\u00e1bamos preparadxs para el escenario que encontramos; esto lo asumimos como una autocr\u00edtica y un aprendizaje que s\u00f3lo la experiencia pudo darnos. Esperamos que este aprendizaje pueda ser recogido por quienes se hermanan con la libertad y no est\u00e1n dispuestxs a esperar la buena voluntad de lxs carcelerxs.<\/p>\n

EN LA HABITACI\u00d3N TAMBI\u00c9N HAB\u00cdA CIENTOS DE INSECTOS EN CAJAS: GUSANXS, ESCARABAJXS Y OTRXS. Desconocemos si experimentaron con ellxs o los usaron de alimento. Tambi\u00e9n fueron liberadxs.
\nEl mismo especismo que jerarquiza y pone a lxs humanxs por sobre todo,
\nque no se imagina experimentar hoy con perrxs o gatxs, pero s\u00ed con roedores; ese especismo ha ignorado por completo a lxs insectos que all\u00ed hab\u00edan. No lxs mencionan lxs cientificxs ni la prensa, pero para nosotrxs, su encierro es tan repudiable como cualquier otro.<\/p>\n

Fue una desici\u00f3n dolorosa dejar ah\u00ed a algunxs roedores e insectos, sin embargo no dudamos ni un segundo en abrir sus jaulas y dejar abundante
\ncomida a disposici\u00f3n. Haberles dejado encerradxs y a merced de lxs
\ncient\u00edficxs\u2026 eso si que no nos dejar\u00eda dormir tranquilxs. Para la pr\u00f3xima estaremos mejor preparadxs.<\/p>\n

No nos asombra que la prensa se ponga del lado de la explotaci\u00f3n y reproduzca la versi\u00f3n de lxs torturadorxs. No nos asombran sus mentiras al respecto del destino de todxs lxs animales para deslegitimizar esta acci\u00f3n. \u00bfVamos a creer en sus palabras? \u00bfVamos a olvidar el problema de fondo, es decir, el encarcelamiento y la tortura?<\/p>\n

3. El laboratorio en cuesti\u00f3n es una peque\u00f1a habitaci\u00f3n, en donde lxs roedores viv\u00edan encerradxs de hasta a 13 en una jaula. Cada jaula apilada ten\u00eda c\u00f3digos de identificaci\u00f3n y nombres de humanxs \u201cdue\u00f1xs\u201d de lxs animales que las habitaban. ENCONTRAMOS 3 ESPECIES DE ROEDORES:
\nRATAS DE LABORATORIO (nada que ver con la foto del diario, pues son negras), RAT\u00d3N DE CAMPO (europeo)y DEG\u00da. Especialmente triste nos
\nresult\u00f3 encontrar que algunxs hab\u00edan sido rapadxs y con evidentes signos de manipulaci\u00f3n. Hab\u00eda calefactores que manten\u00edan temperaturas artificiales.<\/p>\n

4. SABEMOS QUE LXS ROEDORES HAN LLEVADO UNA VIDA DE ASQUEROSO
\nCAUTIVERIO, Y POR ESO NOS PROCURAMOS PREPARAR PAULATINAMENTE LAS CONDICIONES PARA SU LIBERACI\u00d3N FINAL. Pudimos observar un gran cambio desde el trauma del encierro hasta la alegr\u00eda de la libertad:<\/p>\n

\u2013 Las ratas de laboratorio desarrollaron conductas inmediatas que no
\nesper\u00e1bamos. Crearon madrigueras en porciones de tierra, han correteado
\ncon agilidad por ramas y hojas, y se han mostrado activas.
\n\u2013 Lxs ratones de campo se mostraron inquietxs, voraces frente a los
\naliementos como frutos y verduras, y desecharon r\u00e1pido el alimento
\nartificial (pellet). Son osadxs, curiosxs, pero tambi\u00e9n h\u00e1biles en arrancar y encontrar escondite.
\n\u2013 Lxs deg\u00fa fueron reticentes a nuestro contacto. Esta especie end\u00e9mica se esconde en ramas y rincones, se api\u00f1an y comienzan a salir cuando nos
\nalejamos. Se han alimentado de brotes, frutos y semillas.<\/p>\n

5. Desde hace bastante tiempo las corrientes antiautoritarias hemos venido se\u00f1alando que LAS DIVERSAS FORMAS DE EXPLOTACI\u00d3N Y DOMINACI\u00d3N
\nDESCANSAN EN LA JERARQUIZACI\u00d3N DE LXS INDIVIDUXS, JUSTIFICADA Y AVALADA POR LA AUTORIDAD CON DISCURSOS QUE EXCLUYEN A UNXS Y PRIVILEGIAN A OTRXS. El especismo pone el valor de la vida, cuerpos y actividad de lxs animales no humanxs por sobre la del resto, instalando la idea de que la vida cuerpos y actividad de lxs animales pueden ser apropiadas y
\nutilixadas en beneficio de la humanidad, sin tener mayores comtemplaciones sobre su individualidad, libertad y deseos propios. La l\u00f3gica especista nos dice que el resto de las especies existe para servir a la humanidad, avalando as\u00ed la esclavitud, el poder y la autoridad.<\/p>\n

En estos d\u00edas hemos visto a lxs cient\u00edficxs defender la experimentaci\u00f3n,
\nhablando de los beneficios para lxs animales ante el calentamiento global, y afirmando una y otra vez que el bioterio cumple con los protocolos establecidos. Ante ello afirmamos que NO HAY ENCIERRO V\u00c1LIDO NI EXPERIMENTO QUE JUSTIFIQUE LA TORTURA. Que experimenten sobre s\u00ed
\nmismxs si quieren, que se encierren y sometan a lo que somtieron a roedores e insectos.<\/p>\n

Todxs quienes repudian el ser dominadxs, tambi\u00e9n deber\u00edan repudiar el
\ndominar a otrxs. Por esto nuestra posici\u00f3n es firme, rechazamos y nos
\noponemos a toda forma de explotaci\u00f3n y autoridad, tanto si nos oprime a
\nnosotrxs como si oprime a otrxs. \u00bfC\u00f3mo vamos a creer en quienes critican
\nla muerte de algunxs roedores, cuando fueron estas mismas personas
\nquienes las encerraron y sometieron a experimentos? Nos duele el destino
\nde aquellxs que quedaron ah\u00ed, pero sabemos bien que la principal
\nresponsabilidad es de quienes les sometieron a una vida de encierro y
\nles alejaron de su h\u00e1bitat.<\/p>\n

Mucha basura han vomitado lxs cient\u00edficxs afectdxs, declarando su
\npreocupaci\u00f3n por lxs roedores, por su bienestar y por su supuesta
\nincapacidad para desenvolverse en cualquier otro espacio que no sean sus
\nlaboratorios. Ahora les interesan sus muertes, cuando han se\u00f1alado que
\ngeneraciones de roedores han muerto en sus manos, bajo m\u00e9todos
\ncient\u00edficos y la idea del progreso, para ellxs en verdad todo se reduce a p\u00e9rdidas econ\u00f3micas. \u00bfSe sienten violentadxs? o \u00bffrustradxs en sus
\naspiraciones por las consecuencias de nuestra acci\u00f3n? Ahora imag\u00ednense
\ntoda una vida, su \u00fanica vida, en una jaula.<\/p>\n

A ustedes que se creen Diosxs del conocimiento sobre otras especies y a
\nquienes tratan a cient\u00edficxs como tal, les cntamos que nuestrxs hermanxs hoy derriban sus verdades y nos ense\u00f1an que es posible aprender a vivir en libertad. Nos alegramos infinitamente de que sus investigaciones se hayan ido a la mierda, que sus exitosas carreras se vean frustradas, que lloriqueen por twitter\u2026<\/p>\n

Hace diez a\u00f1os luego de una intensa campa\u00f1a se logr\u00f3 cerrar el Bioterio de la Universidad Cat\u00f3lica. Hoy por medio de esta acci\u00f3n directa y sin descartar ninguna forma de sabotaje, hacemos un llamado a multiplicar los actos en contra de la explotaci\u00f3n animal y quienes la promueben. NO PODEMOS ESPERAR A QUE LAS JAULAS SE ABRAN SOLAS, hagamos de las palabras
\ne intenciones acciones de liberaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Fueron muchas las cr\u00edticas que se hicieron a la acci\u00f3n, en base a informaci\u00f3n entregada por la universidad (que desde el primer momento hasta ahora ha cambiado bastante su versi\u00f3n sobre los hechos) y diversos medios que propagan las ideas del poder. Muchas de estas cr\u00edticas las recogemos; sin embargo, otras nos parecen nefastas, dignas de un lloriqueo que estaba m\u00e1s dirigido a deslegitimizar la acci\u00f3n como directa como m\u00e9todo, que centrada en el sensacionalismoo con que fue entregada la noticia\u2026 Llegar a este punto no es f\u00e1cil, ha sido todo un camino de aprendizajes, no es fruto del azar, ni menos un arrebato. Por ende animamos a quienes critican con soltura a tener la misma iniciativa para llevar a cabo proyectos\/instancias de lucha contra el especismo y quienes lo sostienen.<\/p>\n

HACEMOS UN LLAMADO A EVITAR LA COMPRA DE NUEVXS ROEDORES, y a los cient\u00edficxs a cargo: sabemos quienes son y qu\u00e9 hacen, cuiden sus pasos.<\/p>\n

Dedicamos esta acci\u00f3n a todxs lxs animales encerradxs ya sea en laboratorios, zool\u00f3gicos, jaulas o c\u00e1rceles.<\/p>\n
