{"id":628,"date":"2012-01-27T17:44:44","date_gmt":"2012-01-28T01:44:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/animalliberationpressoffice.org\/NAALPO\/?p=628"},"modified":"2012-07-04T17:47:51","modified_gmt":"2012-07-05T01:47:51","slug":"animal-rights-activists-set-fourteen-cattle-trucks-ablaze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/animalliberationpressoffice.org\/NAALPO\/2012\/01\/27\/animal-rights-activists-set-fourteen-cattle-trucks-ablaze\/","title":{"rendered":"Animal rights activists set fourteen cattle trucks ablaze"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>January 27, 2012<br \/>\nHomeland Security News Wire<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/animalliberationpressoffice.org\/NAALPO\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/harrisranch5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-629\" title=\"harrisranch5\" src=\"http:\/\/animalliberationpressoffice.org\/NAALPO\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/harrisranch5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month fourteen cattle-transportation trailers were set on fire at California&#8217;s largest feed yard by an animal rights\u00a0group.<\/p>\n<p>Immediately following the attack the Animal Liberation Front ( ALF ) released a statement that indicated an anonymous group of activists had executed the attack against the \u201chorrors of factory farming\u201d as perpetrated by Harris\u00a0Ranch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nicoal Sheen, a spokeswoman for ALF , said the group distributed the release on behalf of the individuals involved in the attack, but had no direct\u00a0involvement. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the release, the unnamed group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/c\/a\/2012\/01\/10\/BABM1MN8BU.DTL\">explained <\/a> that \u201ccontainers of accelerant were placed beneath a row of fourteen trucks with four digital timers used to light four of the containers and kerosene-soaked rope carrying the fire to the other\u00a0ten.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group added that they \u201cwere extremely pleased\u201d to see that all fourteen trucks \u201cwere a total loss\u201d with some being \u201ccompletely melted to the\u00a0ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c We&#8217;re not delusional enough to believe that this action will shut down the Harris feeding company, let alone have any effect on factory farming as a whole,\u201d the group went on to say. \u201cBut we maintain that this type of action still has worth, if not solely for the participant&#8217;s peace of mind, then to show that despite guards, a constant worker presence and razor wire fence, the enemy is still vulnerable.\u201d In a call to arms, the group ended their release encouraging others to commit further attacks against agriculture\u00a0producers.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the attack, John Harris, the CEO of Harris Ranch, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agriview.com\/news\/livestock\/groups-compare-recent-activist-activity-to-agro-terrorism-attacks\/article_4e64d546-42b6-11e1-b1ed-001871e3ce6c.html\">condemned <\/a> the group&#8217;s actions and called for an end to further\u00a0attacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c We must live in a society that is safe for all and no one can tolerate violence such as this,\u201d Harris said. \u201c ALF and similar terrorist groups pose a real threat and I am confident that the many law enforcement agencies working on this case will bring them to justice\u00a0soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In support of Harris Ranch, the Animal Agriculture Alliance released a statement saying \u201cit is unacceptable for any group to praise this direct assault on American\u00a0agriculture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the Alliance, ALF has a history of violence against the livestock industry and is listed by DHS as a domestic terrorist\u00a0organization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c For example, scientists using animals for life-saving medical research at UCLA have frequently been threatened with bomb scares and intimidation,\u201d the Alliance said. \u201cIn the United States and abroad, ALF and other extremist groups have issued death threats, committed vandalism and hacked websites, all in the name of their distorted ideology. There is no place for such violent acts of\u00a0intimidation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c It is imperative that activists be held accountable for their attempts to undermine farmers, ranchers and meat processors,\u201d the Alliance\u00a0concluded.<\/p>\n<p>On the ALF website, the organization <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animalliberationfront.com\/ALFront\/alf_credo.htm\">states <\/a> it is carrying out \u201cdirect action against animal abuse in the form of rescuing animals and causing financial loss to animal exploiters, usually through the damage and destruction of\u00a0property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ALF maintains that it is waging \u201ca nonviolent campaign\u201d as \u201cactivists [take] all precautions not to harm any animal (human or\u00a0otherwise).<\/p>\n<p>Its goals are to \u201cabolish institutionalized animal exploitation because it assumes that animals are\u00a0property.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>January 27, 2012 Homeland Security News Wire Earlier this month fourteen cattle-transportation trailers were set on fire at California&#8217;s largest feed yard by an animal rights\u00a0group.
