{"id":3470,"date":"2016-01-24T19:11:24","date_gmt":"2016-01-25T03:11:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/animalliberationpressoffice.org\/NAALPO\/?p=3470"},"modified":"2016-01-25T19:15:18","modified_gmt":"2016-01-26T03:15:18","slug":"gunmen-kill-four-at-ensenada-cockfight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/animalliberationpressoffice.org\/NAALPO\/2016\/01\/24\/gunmen-kill-four-at-ensenada-cockfight\/","title":{"rendered":"Gunmen Kill Four at Ensenada Cockfight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two children ages 11 and 16 were among four people killed in Ensenada on Saturday night when gunmen stormed a crowd of several hundred spectators gathered to watch a cockfight, law enforcement authorities reported Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>An additional 15 people were wounded in the attack, which took place at about 10 p.m. at the P\u00f3ker palenque, a cockfighting event held at an arena south of the city\u2019s port off of Avenida Reforma, according to a statement Sunday by the Baja California Attorney General\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>The four who died after being taken to hospitals were identified as Angel Osvaldo P\u00e9rez Camacho, 11; Alexis Omar P\u00e9rez Pucheta, 16; Angel I\u00f1iguez, 22; and Carlos Verdugo Rodr\u00edguez, 34.<\/p>\n<p>The statement gave no motive for the attack and did not say if arrests have been made. It said 37 witnesses are being questioned.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"article-image inline_photo large inline-right \"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.sandiegouniontrib.com\/img\/photos\/2016\/01\/24\/fotopelea_t837.JPG?5df2a6e0ac564ff4ddc2702f3c8561935b88c24b\" alt=\"photo\" \/><figcaption> Ensenada police at the site of an Ensenada cockfight where gunmen had killed four people. <em> \u2014 Roberto Salazar Vargas\/Ensenada.net <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ensenada police said that they were alerted about gunshots at the arena at 9:55 p.m. Witnesses told police that five to seven assailants fired weapons. According to the initial report, 21 people were taken to clinics and hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>After searching the area, police said they located an abandoned vehicle that the gunmen supposedly had used to escape.<\/p>\n<p>Mexican media reported that several hundred people were watching the fights when the gunmen came looking for a man nicknamed \u201cChino.\u201d But neither the Baja California Attorney General\u2019s Office nor Ensenada police confirmed the reports.<\/p>\n<p>Following the attack, members of the Mexican military disactivated a smoke grenade left at the scene, authorities said. Law enforcement officials also recovered 27 cartridges from a .223-caliber weapon and 10 rounds of ammunition from an AK-47 assault rifle.<\/p>\n<p>Initial inquiries into Saturday\u2019s cockfighting activities \u201creveal that they were taking place without permits,\u201d said the statement from the Baja California Attorney General\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>This would not be the first time gunmen interrupted a cockfight hosted by P\u00f3ker palenque at that location.
