He\u2019s prowling on Hanson Road,[1]\r\nknife and fork poised to eat the lusty flesh\r\nof the younger of two Koori girls,\r\ncrouched in front of the shop\r\n--on the corner of Hamilton Street.\r\n\r\nA young\u2019n he wishes to bargain buy, tho\u2019\r\nshe\u2019s probably already serviced a platoon of prowlers\r\nNo matter! \r\nHe semaphores using the lashes\r\n--of his lascivious eyes.\r\n\r\nWhite BMW hovers\r\nGubba[2] testosterone burns hot\r\nElectric windows dipping,\r\nlips licking\r\n--phallus kicking\r\n\r\nAre you looking for a girl?<\/em>\r\nOut of touch with space or time,\r\nsuspended on an Eastern-suburb\u2019s fiscal line\r\nHow much?<\/em>\r\n--Thirty bucks for head: seventy for full!<\/em>\r\n\r\nDo I get fries with that?\r\nOh, piss off!<\/em>\r\nJust another hot asphalt day in a moving bordello\r\nfor this cold cat\r\n--Car fumes his aphrodisiac\r\n\r\nSpeeding to industrial lot,\r\none eye poised for the cops\r\nhis one-eye wonder blinking\r\nSinking, she sighs\r\n--I said seventy mate.<\/em>\r\n\r\nBlacks only get forty\r\nI want the complete naughty\r\nSo take it or leave it!<\/em>\r\nShe pauses, purses her lips,\r\n--followed by the notes\r\n\r\nCondom flung intact out of window gaping\r\nProtest silenced \r\nTwo hands round face,\r\nsmall finger in eye\r\n--witness egalitarian lie\r\n\r\nThe sun melts the chill of her life\r\nas she peels her skin\r\nHe spins his tyres between her thighs,\r\nsmokes a doughnut\r\n--Leaves rubber on her neck and chin\r\n\r\nRun over by the colour of her skin\r\nShe wipes her face, adjusts her pants,\r\nready again for another dance\r\nDrop us back at Hamilton?<\/em>\r\n--No chance!<\/em>\r\n\r\nFeds scour homelands for paedophiles black\r\nShaming, blaming\r\nNose-in-air media all a flutter\r\nTruth melts like heated butter\r\n--Hypocritical shits.\r\n\r\n8,000 mandatory checks over 40 years\r\n37 cases of abuse physical\r\nSexual assault numbers only four\r\nArmy helps open door\r\n--for whining mining\r\n                                                               \r\nThen AFP[3] does moonlight flit\r\nSkulks away: finds Jack Shit<\/em>\r\nBut who permits the bikies and other armed militias\r\nTo drug the Homelands anyway?\r\n--Crime Gangs Task forces\r\n\r\nIn cities they cowardly bash, entrap, gaol\r\nbut protect fortressed bikies\r\nAllow the icing of suburb and region\r\nTear at the blindfold of a winking Ms Justice\r\n--Drug Squads are Mr Hydes[4]\r\n\r\nSun-glassed patrols of black-shirted Jeckyls\r\ncan\u2019t see the street walkers\r\nMount \u2018media-event\u2019 operations on stealthy stalkers\r\nfor the sake of wet-behind-ears reporters \r\n-- Community languishes\r\n\t\r\nYet Mulligan[5] turned up 162 cases\r\nCops, administrators had reddened faces\r\nPoliticians fudge and media mute\r\nThey\u2019d told us No underage sex here!<\/em>\r\n--Adelaide\u2019s beaut!<\/em>\r\n\r\nSo where\u2019s the intervention here then?\r\nLet\u2019s Welfare Card<\/em> politician payments!\r\nOr close this deviant community\r\nI.C.A.C. SAPOL? (Sorry, closed sessions only!)\r\n--Police Complaints: in name only\r\n\r\nOn Hanson the thirteen-year olds\r\nhave become invisible\r\nMedia\u2019s pulled focus,\r\ncops are all myopic\r\n--\u2018White\u2019 paedophilia disappears as a topic\r\n\r\nMeanwhile Licensing Branch secretly manage\r\ntwo hundred white brothels illegal\r\nIn suburbs and on main roads, \r\nreproducing like cane toads\r\n--while Nungas are left to walk the streets\r\n\r\nWhen motor prowlers come stalking\r\nfor black girls it\u2019s su casa es mi casa<\/em>[6]\r\nLegislators scream let\u2019s criminalise the buyers<\/em> - \r\nSwedish model well adopt!<\/em>\r\n--Either way it\u2019s honey for the cops\r\n\r\nGirls will tell you \r\nrapes by \u2018protecting\u2019 coppers number most\r\nTop cops smooth media frowning\r\nwhile in their private cars they come motor prowling\r\n--Knife and fork poised\r\n<\/pre>\n
Chris explains how this poem came about:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe intent behind this poem was to highlight the glaring contradictions between the supposed \u2018child abuse\u2019 excuses used to justify the 2007 Intervention<\/a> and the ongoing reality of under-age Indigenous sex in Adelaide.<\/p>\n
\u201cI asked myself the question: if there were 162 cases sent to trial out of some 500 reported incidents brought to light by the Mulligan Inquiry into child sex,[5] then why wasn\u2019t there an equivalent armed intervention imposed on that aberrant and deviant community? Why wasn\u2019t t there a closer scrutiny of the role of these community leaders – politicians and SAPOL [South Australia Police] – and the break down of law and order with a subsequent welfare-carding of their salaries?<\/p>\n
\u201cThe poem asks the curly question why 200-odd illegal, tax-evading brothels are allowed to operate unimpeded by the Licensing Branch while Indigenous prostitutes are forced unfairly to ply their trade on the streets and are subjected to ongoing racist harassment and imprisonment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<\/section>\n
