STAPLES STATIONARY STORES UNDER ATTACK FOR ANIMAL ABUSE
Delivery Trucks, Two Stores Attacked by Animal Liberation Activists for Company's Role in Animal Testing

San Diego, Ventura Counties: According to separate anonymous communiques received this week by the North American Animal Liberation Press Office, animal activists claimed to have fire-bombed trucks and vandalized stores owned by Staples in San Diego and Ventura counties. Despite attempts to hide their involvement, Staples was discovered supplying the notorious animal testing laboratory Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) with office products.

According to the communiques:
"San Diego area ...Incindiary device left under Staples delivery truck...Small explosive device inserted into exhaust system of additional Staples delivery truck. Staples support of HLS in the UK is unacceptable. When you should be seeing animal torture and murder you are seeing profits instead. We hope to clear that up for you and to guide you towards the proper ethical choice. This will continue (so many of those trucks...) until the CEO of Staples USA and Staples UK publically, and permanently cut ties with HLS. "

and

"Wednesday night after business hours in Ventura County, California, 2 Staples office supply stores were told to "drop HLS."  At least 10 windows were etched in the front of one of the stores, locks were glued up, "Drop HLS" was spray painted on the front wall, and red paint was splashed all over the entrance and sidewalk of both of the stores.  This was done to remind them of the blood of innocent animals on their hands from associating with Huntington Life Sciences.  Until they cut their ties with HLS, they can expect to have many more of their stores redecorated."

Staples stores have been a target in the global and ongoing campaign against Huntingdon Life Sciences, since activists in the UK exposed the fact that Stationary supplier Staples has been caught sneaking into HLS in unmarked vans. Huntingdon Life Science (HLS) is one of the largest animal contract testing laboratories in the world; with three large animal product laboratories, one located in New Jersey and two in the UK. HLS has been exposed in five consecutive undercover investigations showing HLS employees punching beagle puppies in the face, employees simulating sex acts with the animals in the laboratories among other heinous things; HLS has also been found to have violated numerous animal welfare regulations as they torture and kill 500 animals daily testing agrochemicals, household products and pharmaceuticals.. Before losing their NYSE listing two years ago, the company had lost their listing on the London Stock Exchange, after a sustained campaign by activists who exposed atrocities occurring inside HLS facilities.

Six legal protesters from the USA arm of the campaign were convicted in 2006 of violating the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act and were jailed; since their imprisonment hundreds of protests and underground actions have been ongoing in the US and around the world in order to Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC.net)  This world-wide campaign is one of the largest animal rights campaign in the history of the movement, and is being waged in over 22 countries around the world.
